Joogaohjaaja Jessamyn Stanley haastaa stereotypiset käsitykset siitä, miltä joogaa harrastavan vartalo monen mielestä yleensä näyttää – tai pitäisi näyttää. Pluskokoinen Stanley on virallinen ohjaaja ja julkaisee Instagramissa kuvia itsestään erilaisissa, haastavissa jooga-asennoissa yli 96 000 seuraajalleen.

Y'all, I've fallen into the beautiful world of @codyapp and @meghancurrieyoga is the new love of my life. My boo @wanderingwill named her as one of his teacher inspirations during our #ytt at @ashevilleyogacenter and the name stuck with me- especially because Will's #armbalance game is so damn dreamy & I wanted to know the keys to his progress. I'm following the plans in Meghan's "Power Medicine" bundle and her approach is so dope- it's a slower pace than my practice typically takes, but the heart openings make me feel like I'm cranking open parts of my body that have been closed for decades. She's just so..agh, I can't. If I talk about it anymore I'll probably sound like a potential stalker. She's the fucking bomb. Sometimes all it takes is a new teacher to stimulate your practice, and I'm so grateful for the new challenges presented by this delicious approach to yoga. Btw, hey new followers! 27-vuotias Stanley pitää noin kolme joogatuntia viikossa ja myöhemmin kesällä hän kiertää ympäri Yhdysvaltoja viikonloppuisin opettamassa.

”On paljon asioita, joita opit isokokoisempana joogan harrastajana – mitä teet vatsasi kanssa, mitä teet rintojesi kanssa”, Stanley on sanonut.

Stanleyn mielestä on pelottavaa nähdä ”tyypillinen joogavartalo” ohjaajalla.

”Se luo enemmän tavoitteellisen kokemuksen inspiroivan sijaan. Se ei oikeastaan tuo esiin sitä, mitä joogan pitäisi tarjota ihmisille”, hän on todennut haastattelussa.

”Koko harjoituksen pointti on polttaa pois osia elämistämme, jotka ovat rakentuneet vuosien ajan ja niillä ei ole väliä ja polttaa sen alta esiin, kuka todella, aidosti olet”, Stanley on kertonut.

Today I finally tried @cbquality's #splits program on @trainersvault and, as one would expect from the high priestess of thick fit #yoga girls, it left my hips and hamstrings VERY happy. I'm really excited to keep practicing her sequence and feeling my body open even more- it's very simple but extremely deep delicious stretches. I've had a lot of new developments in my life and my hips are holding all of the associated stress- It was a gift to open into them and release some unnecessary tension. ”Kehosi ei ole esteenä tielläsi. Vain sinun oma mielesi on esteenäsi”, Stanley on sanonut ja osoittanut, ettei jooga ole vartalotyypistä kiinni:

Today I held #pinchamayurasana w/ STRAIGHT MOTHERFUCKIN' LEGS, Y'ALL. FOR A COUPLE OF BREATHS. AND I DIDN'T FALL DOWN- I actually exited somewhat gracefully. I am obsessed w/ the way @fitqueenirene & @cbquality enter this pose because they always look as though they are effortlessly standing up, as we do when we stand on our feet. Idk if you recall, but any 1-3 year old will tell you that learning to stand on your feet is sooo hard. Therefore, it shouldn't surprise anyone that it could take years before one can comfortably find balance on the forearms, hands, or head. As it stands, I've been working on this pose for the better portion of two years and it's been a crazy ride that's definitely involved wayyy more falling down than standing up. I guess what I'm trying to say is- don't give up. No matter what. No matter how many times you fall down. Because one day you won't fall down. And the feeling will be so worth it. I took a little break from the internet this weekend. I mean, I likelovehate social media as much as the next late twentysomething but JEEZ- a femme can only take so much 'internet-ing' before she needs to get outside and feel the grass under her toes, ya dig? In addition to spending time with my loved ones, eating @krispykreme doughnuts, and sunning myself by the banks of the Eno River, I spent the past few days catching up on projects that slid to my back burner while I was in Asheville. Of course, I would love to spill the beans on everything new and exciting to come, but I'm sworn to secrecy on several different topics. HOWEVER, I am SO STOKED to announce that my #yoga teenage dream is about to come true- my long distance yoga love @nolatrees & I are hitting the road….together….to teach joint yoga workshops! Dana & I are getting pumped to bring our body positive yoga mission to as many of you as humanly possible. However, if we hold a workshop, would you come?
